August 1, 2023 — Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis today marked her 6th year anniversary as MMSU president, with the inauguration of the university’s newest academic unit, the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS), as one of the highlights.

“This is a testament of our commitment in embracing the power of digitalization,” remarked President Agrupis after cutting the ribbon. She thanked university administrators and faculty members of the college for their dedication in advancing information and communication technology education.

"With great pride and excitement, we witness the realization of a vision that began years ago, driven by the ever-evolving landscape of technology and the growing demand for ICT professionals," said Dr. Saturnina Nisperos, the pioneering CCIS dean.

The 13th MMSU college consists of two departments, computer science and information technology, which are chaired by Prof. Andrea Estrella Garcia and Dr. Napoleon Cacanindin, respectively. Twenty-seven teaching personnel comprise the CCIS faculty.

Both President Agrupis and Dean Nisperos also expressed their gratitude to Dr. Marivic M. Alimbuyuguen, College of Arts and Sciences dean, for pushing for the creation of the CCIS and the completion of the college building which boasts of modern office set-ups, state-of-the-art classrooms, and groundbreaking equipment.

They also thanked Dr. J. Prospero De Vera III, chairperson of the Commission on Higher Education and MMSU Board of Regents, for the CHED’s support to the university’s commitment to fully develop MMSU as a Smart Campus.

The Microsoft Hololens 2, one of the XR devices in the college, was purchased from Amicus KOI Solutions, a provider of professional technology services with head offices in Australia. Ms. Rhodora Santos, president and chief executive officer of the company, graced the inauguration of CCIS.

The predecessor department, originally under the MMSU College of Arts and Sciences, obtained its status as CHED Center of Development in Information Technology in 2016. The creation of CCIS was approved by the MMSU Board of Regents through BOR Resolution No. 002, s. 2023, during its 147th regular meeting held on March 29, 2023 at the Commission on Higher Education Central Office in Quezon City.
